The Roma Open Front Boots can
protect the delicate tendon area of the back of the leg, and the
fetlock area from bumps, bruising or strikes. The outer shell of the
boots is shaped to be comfortable on the horse, and to allow full range
of movement. The protective, semi-rigid boot secures around the lower
leg of the horse, supporting the fetlock, and providing a type of
shield for the tendons and ligaments that run behind the cannon bone.
These boots are designed to allow the front of the cannon to feel any
knocks of the rails when jumping. This is to help them learn from
mistakes naturally and improve their form over a jump with their front
legs. Many trainers believe if the front legs are completely surrounded
in protection, they can't feel a jumping rail and therefore do not
learn how to solve problems such as rocking back and using their body
to deal with a tight distance. The Open Front Boots by Roma have a
soft, durable neoprene lining also assists in absorbing shock. Neoprene
is a dense foam that is easy to care for, and breathable. It has some
ability to also diffuse shock waves from landing a jump away from the
tendons and ligaments.
